Why Volunteer

A Sadaqah Jariyah That Outlives You

Smart Academy is not a tuition centre and not a coaching factory. We are a full-fledged Islamic English Medium school in Norimpur, Ramganj, Lakshmipur — a rural area of south-east Bangladesh — where every lesson is taught with Tarbiyyah (character formation) and Ta'leem (knowledge) woven together. Our students grow up under a curriculum that meets Bangladesh's national education board while also nurturing their Islamic identity, Bangla heritage, and global English fluency.

When you teach here — even for one hour a week — you are not just delivering a subject. You are pouring into a child who may carry your words into adulthood, into their family, and into the next generation. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." The reward of teaching, in any beneficial subject, is among the most enduring forms of Sadaqah Jariyah (continuing charity).

Whether you are a retired professor in Kuala Lumpur, a software engineer in Toronto, a medical student in Dhaka, a homemaker in Riyadh, or a college lecturer in Cumilla — your knowledge has a place in our classrooms. Because our campus is in a remote area, your online presence is not a substitute for a "real" teacher — for many of our children, you are the connection to a wider world.

"The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr."— attributed to the Prophet ﷺ

How You Will Teach

Teach the Way That Fits Your Life

💻

Online Live Classes

Join via Zoom from anywhere in the world. Lead a 40-minute class while our on-campus co-teacher manages the classroom in person. The smart board in our classroom mirrors your screen, and students interact with you in real time.

International volunteers, working professionals, busy parents.
🏫

On-Campus Visits

Visit our campus in Norimpur (Ramganj, Lakshmipur) — once a week, once a month, or as a one-off guest lecture. Hands-on labs, sports coaching, art workshops, and career talks come alive when you walk into our classroom in rural Bangladesh.

Locally-based volunteers from Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Cumilla, Feni and Chattogram; visiting NRBs; retired teachers.
🎥

Pre-recorded Lessons & Content

Record short lessons (5–15 min) that we add to our learning portal. Your video reaches the same students again and again — and others who join in future years.

Volunteers who prefer asynchronous work or have limited live availability.
🤝

1-on-1 Mentoring (Senior Students)

Mentor a Class 8–10 student weekly on study habits, career direction, university preparation, or a project. A high-impact 30-minute call can change a child's trajectory.

Industry professionals, university faculty, alumni-style mentors.

Voices of Our Volunteers

In Their Own Words

I teach Class 5 spoken English every Wednesday at 8pm Bangladesh time, which is 6am for me in Toronto. The school sent me a video of the children making Eid cards for me. I cried.
Online · International
— Dr. Rumana A., Family Physician, Canada
I retired from a college in Noakhali. Going to Smart Academy in Norimpur once a week to teach Class 9 physics keeps me alive. The questions these rural children ask — I would not have thought of them at their age.
On-campus · Lakshmipur
— Mr. M. Aslam Hossain (Rtd. Lecturer), Noakhali
I gave one 45-minute talk on what a software engineer does. Three weeks later, a Class 8 boy emailed me his first Python program. That single talk justified the whole evening.
One-off Guest
— Tasnia R., Senior Engineer at a multinational tech firm
